Green Bransholme

If you know all about the Bransholme Enterprises Allotments and Community Woodlands and about the Noddle Hill Wildlife Area and Fishing Lake you’ll not need to read this….

The Community Woodland and Allotment site is managed by a social enterprise which has benefited from Lottery funding.

The 49 plot Community Allotment site is fully used by the community and is equipped with tools and secure storage, polytunnel and composting toilet. At this site the BELTER (Bransholme Ecological Learning, Training & Education Resource Centre) project provides training programmes, Open College Network (OCN) courses in basic horticulture, and support for those who want to return to work. There are Plant and Vegetable Sales at the Community Allotment site, Noddle Hill Way, Mon – Fri 10 – 12 and Saturdays 12 – 2 . Contact for more information is 01482 821467.

The Community Woodland site is maintained by Bransholme Enterprises working with volunteers. It is a relatively young woodland with Oak, Silver Birch, Lime, Alder, Mountain Ash and Hornbeam and a growing range of wildlife. It is open to all and picnics and dog walking are fine. Wednesdays/Thursdays are volunteer days. Contact for more information is 01482 821467.

The Noddle Hill Fishing Lake is a municipal lake run by Hull City Council, from whom Day Tickets and Season Passes are available: 01482 300300. There are Bream, Carp, Roach, Perch and Rudd. An Environmental Agency Rod Licence is necessary.

Adjacent to the lake is an extensive Wetland Wildlife Area where an impressive range of species of birds, insects, butterflies and moths has been spotted. There is a move to have the area designated a Nature Reserve, and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust ran some events there in August 2011, including a Butterfly and Dragonfly Day, a Bat and Moth Walk and a Family Ecology Day. Look out for future events on the YWT website.
