Report on Renewable Energy Showcase

Like the idea of generating your own energy? Are there ways you can improve the insulation of your home?

Hull and East Riding Renewable Energy Showcase was held on Sat 23 October 2010 at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel in Willerby. Two Transition Hull members went along and were impressed by the information and expertise provided by the Energy Saving Trust, which organised the event. A number of commercial suppliers were attending  the showcase to promote their offerings, mainly in the area of loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, and solar energy. Since the feed-in tariff has allowed households which generate their own electricty to feed into the national grid, the attractiveness of having  solar PV panels installed on your roof has increased greatly. Solar thermal installations to heat your hot water continue to be an option. Gound heat exchange systems can be an option if you have sufficient land, and air source heat pumps can be a cost effective solution for people who are not on the gas network.

Other products on display included radiator insulation panels, chimney balloons and thermal internal wall and floor coverings. It’s worth investigating what’s available to reduce your energy consumption, reduce your bills and save the planet at the same time!
